LOVERS SESSIONS

Today is reason enough. Not an anniversary. Not an event. Just the two of you somewhere that means something, photographed by someone who is really looking.

NO REASON REQUIRED

Some couples come because they've never had a photo together they actually like. Some want to hold on to a season before it shifts. Some are on holiday. Some stay right at home. Some aren't marking anything at all. Wanting time together is plenty.

Today is reason enough.

The stiff first few minutes

Most people have no idea what to do when a lens turns toward them. They lock up, put on a show or copy something they've seen in someone else's photos.

That's completely normal. Telling you to relax would just hand you another thing to get right.

So I give you something real to focus on: a small direction, a conversation or a place to wander. We start with whatever is already there and let the session find its own pace.

The first few minutes don't have to prove a thing.

- WHAT REALLY HAPPENS

What really happens

I once ran a workshop for a room of wedding photographers. I put a couple in lovely light and asked one photographer to pose them as flawlessly as they could.

With every new instruction, the couple got stiffer. In the end, the photographer stepped back and admitted it looked forced.

I asked the couple to shake out their shoulders, forget about their posture and hold each other the way they do at home. That was all it took. They looked like themselves again.

The light was already right. I handled the framing.

They didn't need more directions. They needed fewer things to worry about.

- WHERE WE MEET

A husband and wife framed by the distinctive architecture of Brighton

Nantes, anywhere in France or further afield in Europe.

Your own street. A city you're passing through. Somewhere you've always wanted to see. Or a place that already holds part of your story.

The place should feel like yours. That's the one rule.

Before we meet, I'll send a short questionnaire. Not to check you're serious. I want to learn what comes naturally between you and what makes you hesitate.

It takes around ten minutes. It means I arrive already tuned in.

ABOUT BEING PHOTOGRAPHED

It's fine to feel awkward.

Being photographed brings a strange kind of self-awareness. All of a sudden you can see yourself trying.

I'm not waiting for you to become bolder, calmer or more photogenic.

We work with what's there until the camera stops being the centre of attention.

Not polished. Not fixed. Simply you.

Tell me what sounds like you.

A location, a rough idea or just a sense that now could be the moment.
